We specialise in the restoration and custom build of classic Land Rovers, creating fully personalised vehicles that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering.

Retro Defenders began in 2018 with a simple seed of passion and a shared love for classic Land Rovers.
Founders Ben and Tim started their journey as a result of the restoration of Tim’s own Defender, a project driven purely by enthusiasm rather than commercial ambition. What began as an evening and weekend pursuit, stripping vehicles back and rebuilding them, quickly evolved into something much greater as they recognised the demand for their work.
Today, we find ourselves at the forefront of the custom Land Rover space, fuelled by a fixation for details that's driven us to refine the way these cars are built and transformed. Far beyond traditional restoration, we refine original elements, design new components, and introduce features that put Retro builds into a league of their own.
We believe in the constant pursuit of progress, pushing the boundaries of restoration further with every build.
OUR WORKSHOP
Our home in Boston Spa, Yorkshire, is more than just a workshop; it’s a home of automotive craftsmanship and creativity. Transcending traditional restoration, transforming each Land Rover into a beautifully engineered masterpiece.
Each pristine build bay is dressed with items significant to that project, creating a unique atmosphere for every build. The workshop operates with surgical precision, stripping donors and rebuilding them with an artist's touch. From the details you’ll never see to custom paint finishes, each Land Rover that leaves here is reborn as a Retro, serving as a testament to our ethos and carrying our legacy forward.

Every vehicle that leaves our workshop is a complete one-off. No serial production, no template builds. Each commission is created from the ground up to meet your exact requirements. We take the time to understand how you'll use your Land Rover and how it will fit your life. No two builds are ever the same.
